Fall Foliage Elopement at Finger Lakes Treehouse

In the heart of fall, I had the opportunity to participate in a whimsical and adventurous elopement styled shoot against the vibrant fall hues of Upstate New York. The shoot was hosted by Elope Academy, a project created by Colorado-based elopement photographer Kasey Jo. Kasey hosts educational retreats for emerging photographers with a mission to uplift her peers and this shoot was no different. She orchestrated an outdoorsy, bohemian, and whimsical event that showcased the beauty of the East Coast and our incredible wedding vendors.

After connecting with Kasey and talking more about her vision for the shoot, we decided on floral designs inspired by the season’s bright fall foliage. We created a floral mood board, capturing the essence of the shoot with a color scheme of whites, oranges, yellows, and reds.

The quaint and contemporary A-frame houses of Finger Lakes Treehouse provided a charming setting for the shoot complete with wood-fired hot tubs and picturesque fire rings. The snow covered landscape and the vibrant autumn leaves seamlessly blended with the pallet that Kasey and I had selected.

In my commitment to source flowers locally, I incorporated foraged elements such as beech leaves, strawflower, and queen Anne’s lace. These additions not only added a bespoke touch, but also infused the designs with a whimsical and personal charm. The challenge of not being able to source entirely locally  due to the seasonal limitations of Vermont flowers led to a creative fusion of locally sourced and foraged elements in addition to flowers carefully selected from our green mountain wholesaler.

Despite freezing fingers and intermittent breaks due to the unforeseen snowfall, the flowers and the photographers withstood the surprise wintery conditions of the Northeast.

With about 10 photographers capturing the scenes, the shoot came to life through the lenses of talented wedding and elopement photographers like Jenna Aulabaugh, Erin Doty, and Corey Lynn Tucker. Something Borrowed Rentals contributed an elegant arbor and sweetheart table, adding these romantic pieces to the natural surroundings of Finger Lakes Treehouse.
